Italian Parliamentary Intergroup

AI & Blockchain for the real economy

Luca Busolli participates in Working Group 9 — AI & Blockchain, coordinated by Marco Remondino, PhD, within the Parliamentary Intergroup on Digital Assets, Blockchain and Bitcoin.

The Intergroup at a glance

The Parliamentary Intergroup on Digital Assets, Blockchain and Bitcoin promotes dialogue between institutions and the world of digital innovation. Its aims include improving understanding of these technologies, raising awareness of their opportunities and risks, and encouraging discussion of the conditions for their responsible development in Italy. The wider remit covers digital assets and their economic implications as well as blockchain technology. Within this framework, Group 9 focuses on the integration of AI and blockchain in non-financial applications.

A cross-sector technology focus

Group 9 studies the convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain across industrial and institutional settings. Its remit is deliberately distinct from cryptocurrencies, decentralised finance and financial digital assets, which are addressed by other thematic groups. The focus is practical applications for the real economy, public services, security and competitiveness.

Complementary technologies

The working programme explores how AI analysis and prediction can be combined with blockchain-based provenance and traceability. It asks where this combination is useful, how reliable the data are and which governance arrangements are needed. Applications are assessed as mature, experimental or still mainly theoretical, rather than treated as universally ready for deployment.

Applications across sectors

The group’s scope includes supply-chain traceability, transport and logistics, tourism, predictive maintenance and infrastructure safety, public and private asset management, administrative processes, compliance and inter-organisational coordination. Sustainability is another strand, including measurement and traceability of environmental benefits and CO₂ reductions.

Three working objectives

Map non-financial AI–blockchain applications using real cases and scientific literature; assess implications for public governance and national competitiveness; develop operational proposals and sector recommendations. The approach connects technical evidence with the conditions needed for responsible adoption.
